Calculate Facings And Aisle Impact

A 1200 mm shelf length can provide more horizontal space than a 900 mm bay, but the right length depends on product facings, upright pitch, transport access, and the number of bays that fit the wall or island. For an island, calculate the width of both selling faces plus the base and product projection before approving the aisle.

Keep shopping carts, wheelchair access, replenishment, emergency routes, and queue formation in the calculation. A double-sided bay can improve display capacity while making a narrow aisle uncomfortable; a single-sided bay can preserve circulation while losing a second selling face.

Use the same shelf family when both sides carry comparable dry-grocery loads, then customize depths, dividers, hooks, or end units for special categories.
